This guide aims to provide you with essential information and tips to streamline your leveling experience and help you navigate the Old World effectively.

In Warhammer Online, your character’s progression is measured through two distinct systems:

1. Experience (XP) Level: This determines your character’s overall level, enhancing your stats and unlocking new abilities. The XP level ranges from 1 to 40.

2. Renown Rank (RR): Gained exclusively through Player vs. Player (PvP) activities such as Scenarios and Open Realm vs. Realm (RvR) combat, RR provides points that can be allocated to boost stats or acquire special features. RR ranges from 1 to 80, with progression beyond 80 offering cosmetic rewards. Notably, your RR cannot exceed twice your XP level (e.g., at XP level 1, the maximum RR is 2), except when you reach XP level 40.

Wards are character unlocks obtained by equipping specific armor pieces. Progressing through these Wards is essential for your character to access more powerful armor and weapons.

Unified Wards System

Previously, RoR had separate Wards for PvP and PvE content. Now, these have been unified, offering players greater flexibility in choosing their progression path toward end-game gear. However, note that Renown Rank requirements for certain gear remain unchanged, so participating in PvP is still necessary for specific PvP sets.

Each Ward requires you to equip specific armor pieces to unlock its fragments. Once all fragments for a Ward are obtained, the Ward is unlocked for your character. You can view the details and specific pieces needed for each Ward in your Tome of Knowledge.

Ward Fragments

To complete a ward, you must unlock all of its fragments. Each fragment can be completed by equipping one of the items listed in the associated tome of knowledge entry. This means there are different ways to unlock a ward: wearing full armour sets or mixing sets. For example. to unlock the Recruit’s ward the following armour sets can either be mixed or worn as complete sets: Decimator, Braggart, Carnage, Hunter, Protector..

PvE Gear – An Efficient Alternative

• Certain PvE sets do not require PvP rank, making them a great option for players looking to gear up quickly.
• Running dungeons can provide strong gear without the heavy PvP grind.
• This approach allows players to gain powerful stats early while working toward PvP gear at their own pace.

Dungeon Runs – Key to Progression

• Running dungeons in organized groups speeds up the process.
• Dungeons like Gunbad, Bastion Stair, Crypt and Tunnel Dungeons provide major gear rewards.

Branching Paths – Player Choice Matters

After hitting level 40, players can choose different paths, such as:

• Beast Lord Path – A powerful PvE gear route.
• Whale Walker Set – Alternative gear with unique benefits.
• These sets allow for a flexible playstyle depending on whether a player prioritizes PvE, PvP, or hybrid gameplay.
